In this lecture Professor Zach Murphy will be discussing cholesterol metabolism. We describe the various enzymatic processes involved in converting Acetyl-CoA into cholesterol. We also discuss the regulation of some of the more important enzymes in this pathway as well as their relationship to pharmaceuticals (statins). Finally, we talk about the use of cholesterol in bile salts, steroid hormones, and lipoproteins.
